Paint me a picture of a river
and let it flow
just let it flow
it will flow and wash away our differences
and love will grow.

Great song. Very hypnotic in a way that only African-inspired music can be. Also, “interesting” symbolism in the video, even back from the early 90s.

Yes, I know. WOMAD (WOrld Music And Dance) was all the rage then in the UK. It’s a World Music festival and artists from it featured prominently on radio stations. This song was played a lot back then.

I kind of sketchily recall WOMAD. I was just getting started as a solo singer/songwriter in Los Angeles at the time and I was up on all the “cool” festivals, events, people, etc. Thirty years ago, mate. Seems like a lifetime ago!

WOMAD was all the range at one point. Closely aligned with Peter Gabriel’s REAL WORLD record label. Geofrey Oryema was on that label. Also, artists such as Afro Celt Sound System, Youssou N’Dour, The Holmes Brothers, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Yunchen Llamo, U. Srinivas and many others.

Also, WP keeps making me log in TWICE in order to leave a comment, and then I still can’t “like” your comments.😡

Hi Sharine. I have been through all of my admin this side of the site and nothing which should prevent you from doing so. I hate being banned from Substack. We have found one another so that’s something. I wish WP wasn’t such a pain for you though.
